Using the book: 1, 2, 3, John & Jude: Established by Truth … Marked by Love, by John MacArthur

These letters are full of insights and direction along with warnings and encouragement . . . all based on two words: truth and love. These words remind us that God supplies all we need. That there is a real purpose to generosity. That there are times to be tolerant and times to take a stand. That faith includes certainties. Truth and love remind us of the life-changing power in the gospel message. Want a guide on to how to live? Study John and Jude’s letters of truth and love.

In the face of false teachings about Jesus, the apostle John took a direct approach. “I heard Jesus speak,” he wrote. “I saw him . . . I even touched him.” Just as we would write about someone we knew and loved, John told the early believers the truth about the Savior. But he didn’t let them off the hook without an examination of their lives.

John, the brother of James, was not alone in his concern about the influence of false teachers in the early church. Jude, a half-brother of Christ, also wrote to the believers. In his letter, he firmly urged all believers to fight for truth, and encouraged all followers of Jesus to stand firm in the faith.

  • Our obedience in faith keeps us in fellowship with God.
  • God will forgive our sins.
  • We can measure any truth by where it places Jesus in relation to God.
  • God’s love and Christ’s victory are the Christian’s inheritance.
