I have an old King James Bible with an intro to Psalm 3 that says King David penned this poem when he was fleeing from his son Absalom who was trying to kill him.
The familial hell in David’s household was brought on by David himself. His adultery with Bathsheba and his successful plan to cover up his liaison with his new lady by having her husband murdered equated a holy butt whuppin’ from God (2 Samuel 12:11) in the form of massive family problems.
Most Christians, if they screwed up so royally like David did, would probably be beset with guilt and condemnation for the rest of their days. Indeed, el Diablo would work them over with Linda Ronstadt’s lyrics, “You’re no good. You’re no good. You’re no good. Baby, you’re no good” and most Christians would buy that skubalon and ask for seconds.
David, on the other hand, truly knew God and thus knew His grace and therefore continued as God’s special boy full of faith and boldness even after he had blown it badly.
Question: Have you to screwed up royally like David?
If yes, don’t throw away your confidence in God. David didn’t and you shouldn’t. Look how David rolled after getting rolled by his bedeviled demonic desires. It’s pretty impressive how he bounced back from those heinous sins with his forceful faith intact.
Psalm 3 is the perfect psalm to pray and sing when you have enemies past counting who hope that God abandons you. David let this prayer rip against the devils hellbent on his demise and so should you. Don’t be bashful, be bold and now pray this to God and ask Him to slap the faces and break the teeth of the powers of darkness and their minions who do their dirty work against you.
Psalm 3 (ESV)
Give ear to my words, O Lord;
consider my groaning.Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for to you do I pray.O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil may not dwell with you.The boastful shall not stand before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.You destroy those who speak lies;
the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
will enter your house.I will bow down toward your holy temple
in the fear of you.Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
because of my enemies;
make your way straight before me.For there is no truth in their mouth;
their inmost self is destruction;
their throat is an open grave;
they flatter with their tongue.Make them bear their guilt, O God;
let them fall by their own counsels;
because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out,
for they have rebelled against you.But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may exult in you.For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.
Something to sing and pray about.
